The C.N. Wilson Fund
C.N. WILSON FUND ESTABLISHED WITH THE SAINT JOHN FOUNDATION An outstanding community philanthropist and business leader, the late Charles N. Wilson, is being honoured by his family by the creation of a permanent named endowment fund as part of The Saint John Foundation. The fund, called the “C.N. Wilson Fund”, was established by the transfer of the assets of the Charles Wilson Charitable Foundation to The Saint John Foundation . The Wilson Foundation was founded in 1961 by the late Mr. Wilson, who was a long time supporter of Saint John area charities. The value of the Wilson Foundation grew over the years to approximately $700,000. The announcement was made by Lino Celeste, Chairman of The Saint John Foundation, and Alfretta (Allie) Scott., Keith Wilson and Conrad (Bud) Wilson, the three children of C. N. Wilson, in May, 2000. Mr. Wilson first went to work at the Bank of New Brunswick on Prince William Street at age 15. C.N. Wilson’s business holdings, directorships and executive positions during his career were a chronicle of key local businesses. They included Saint John Tugboat Company, Standard Dredging Co., Saint John Terminals Limited, Saint John Propane Gas Co., the Admiral Beatty Hotel, MRA’s Department Store, Saint John Drydock, NB Telephone Co., the Bank of Nova Scotia, land and gravel operations, Saint John riverboats such as the D.J. Purdy, the Grand Manan Ferry and Bay of Fundy freighters, to name just a few. It is possible for a donor to identify specific fields of interest, create a named fund or even specify the recipient of earnings from an endowment fund. There is great flexibility in the way potential donors can create a lasting gift to their community. |
